Italian pianist and composer Ludovico Einaudi closed out his „In a Time Lapse“ two-and-ahalf year European tour on the opulent stage of the Baths of Caracalla in Rome. Einaudi‘s performance, which received a standing ovation, was divided into two parts, the first of which saw him accompanied by a choir and guitars, violins and cellos, while in the second half, he took to the piano alone. For his concert in Rome, theTurin musicians put together an eclectic mix of genres, including folk, jazz, classical, pop, and electronica. The audience was visibly transported by the music, with the concert ending in a festive atmosphere as concert-goers clapped in time to the music. Even the usually reserved Einaudi let loose on stage, resulting in a passionate and highly charged performance!

In a rich career spanning sixty years, Chucho has pushed boundaries in pursuit of new expressions in Afro-Cuban music. His influence in the genre is immeasurable, his work establishing the standard by which younger generations set out to create their own.

RCO: Järvi conducts Mozart & Schumann
Víkingur Ólafsson is making his debut with the Concertgebouworkest. Over the past few years, he has attracted attention with his interpretation of music by Bach, Glass and contemporary music. That’s why it’s certainly be interesting to hear his interpretation of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24, a work of unrivalled beauty anticipating the romantic era with its dramatic opening and its dark undercurrents. Paavo Järvi has made several impressive guest appearances with the Concertgebouworkest. He now shines his light on Schumann’s Third Symphony (‘Rhenish’), the culmination of Schumann’s efforts to prove himself as an orchestral composer. Inspired by the beautiful landscape of the Rhineland, he wanted this symphony to sound like folk music. But the work also sometimes has a solemn, spiritual intensity, the result of the deep impression that the then newly built Cologne Cathedral made on him. Angela Hewitt plays the Goldberg Variations
Since she was young, the Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt dedicated herself to the oeuvre of Johann Sebastian Bach with great passion and conviction. She has recorded all of his piano pieces on CD and performed them to audiences around the world in countless concerts. For her merits for this great composer, Hewitt is the first ever female recipient of the renowned Leipzig Bach Medal. On this occasion, she played Bach’s Goldberg Variations at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig, at the authentic place where Bach served as Thomas Cantor and is buried.
Blomstedt conducts Voríšek & Mozart
With this concert, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and Herbert Blomstedt embarked on a musical journey to the Czech Republic in memory of the orchestra’s former conductor Václav Neumann. It was there that Jan Václav Voríšek was born in 1791, the manuscript of his D Major Symphony sharing the fate of the symphonies of his friend Franz Schubert in neither being published nor performed during his lifetime. Prague was also the place of a short, late, and rare happy chapter in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s moving biography and his D major Symphony K. 504 was premiered there. Celebrate with him alongside the most beautiful music and breathtaking surroundings and his renditions of classic compositions like Swan Lake, Nutcracker Suite, River Flows In You and The Lonely Shepherd. Of the performance, HAUSER says, „While visiting some of Croatia’s most stunning locations for the ‘Alone Together’ series, I had to include one of the country’s most well-known destinations – Dubrovnik. This beautiful city, with its unique location and stunning architecture, has been shaped by events throughout history – it is little wonder why it was chosen as one of the locations for Game of Thrones. I obviously had to include that title theme in the set list!
Jonas Kaufmann – It’s Christmas
Jonas Kaufmann echoes his own Christmas memories and joys, celebrating the most festive time of the year with a unique selection of beloved songs and carols. The concert is shot at the Silent Night Chapel in Oberndorf near Salzburg, the original place where the Christmas carol Silent Night, by Joseph Mohr and Franz Xaver Gruber, was performed for the first time on December 24th 1818. In addition, festive location shots at the Christmas market in Salzburg. Including a rich selection of beloved worldwide favorites such as Adeste fidelis / O come and Silent Night, American holiday favorites like Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
