In 2012, one of the finest boys’ choirs in the world, the St. Thomas Boys Choir Leipzig, celebrated its 800th anniversary. An almost unbelievable period of time, if one considers that the choir outlasted all ups and downs of European history, maintaining its unbroken traditions over the centuries and holding onto established principles such as the inclusion of the elder boys in the education of the younger ones. A musical event of very particular significance during the anniversary celebration, is the traditional performance of one of Bach’s Passions in St. Thomas Church in the run-up to Easter.

The documentary film “Der Colón Ring – Wagner in Buenos Aires” (The Colón Ring – Wagner in Buenos Aires), directed by Hans Christoph von Bock, follows each step of the unusual production. The film aims to entertain viewers while showing them how Wagner’s vision of “The Ring of the Nibelung” emerges as a Gesamtkunstwerk and an all-encompassing live theater experience.

The film accompanied the St. Thomas Boys Choir and their choir master Georg Christoph Biller over the period of one year, immersing the audience in a unique world between motet, boarding school and football pitch, into a life that is distinguished by success and pressure to perform, doubts and pride, homesickness and genuine friendship.
On the Road – On the Trail of Jack Kerouac
In 1951- 60 years ago – Jack Kerouac wrote ‘On The Road’. The novel tells the story of Jack Kerouac’s travels across the America of the late forties, always searching for freedom, for himself, for drugs, sex and the next great adventure. ‘On The Road’ lies at the core of pop culture. This book is the key to everything that followed. We want the 60th anniversary of its orginal publication to be the moment we take a closer look at it, as well: Four young people got the opportunity to get into an old convertible and drive that car straight across America on Jack Kerouac’s route. How will these modern young people experience a trip through modern America with ‘On The Road’ shining in the background? The result: a road movie, a collage of original locations, poetry slams, cinema verite, jam sessions, and new adventures on the road, with music by Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Gotye, Scott McKenzie, REM, Morcheeba, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, John Coltrane and Don McLean, amongst others.
R. Wagner: The Ring from the Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires

Symbols of that age are seen on the costumes, while the characters also make references to the period in their behavior and gestures.
