RCO: The Four Seasons – Vivaldi & Piazzolla

The concert gives people from different cultural backgrounds the chance to soak up the atmosphere of the classical concert hall. The programme features an exciting mix of Italian Baroque with Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and Argentine passion in the master of tango Astor Piazzolla’s own Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Both the orchestra’s principal violinists, Vesko Eschkenazy and Liviu Prunaru, have been given the wonderful job of conveying, together with their fellow musicians, the shimmering quality of both idioms. Appalachian Journey

Appalachian Journey Live in Concert captures three of the world´s most extraordinary musicians live in concert, along with some very special guests from their sold out performance at New York City´s Avery Fisher Hall. The unique and compelling trio of cellist Yo-Yo Ma, violinist Mark O´Connor and bassist Edgar Meyer reaches a whole new level of artistic and technical prowess as they weave their way through a wide varitey of musical genres. Carnegie Hall 120th Anniversary Concert

On May 5, 2011, Carnegie Hall commemorated its 120th anniversary with an all-star gala concert featuring conductor Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic and special guests: pianist Emanuel Ax, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, violinist Gil Shaham, and the four-time Tony Award-winning singer and actress Audra McDonald. The eclectic, crowd pleasing program is set to include Beethoven’s Triple Concerto in C major, Op. 56, performed by Ax, Ma, and Shaham, a selection of Duke Ellington songs – including ‘Solitude,’ ‘Sophisticated Lady,’ ‘On a Turquoise Cloud,’ and ‘It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got That Swing’ -performed by McDonald, and full performances of Antonin Dvorák’s Carnival Overture and George Gershwin’s ‘An American in Paris’.

Karajan in Salzburg

This film shows Herbert von Karajan rehearsing Don Giovanni and a Wagner concert for the Salzburg Festival. It is a deeply moving tribute to one of the greatest musicians of the century. As one of the highlights: Karajan and Jessye Norman performing Isolde’s Liebestod.
