Double Concerto (Ashkenazy, Barenboim)
With his first television programme, Double Concerto, Christopher Nupen pioneered a style of filming music-making for television which has never been excelled since. His celebrated recording of the young pianists Daniel Barenboim and Vladimir Ashkenazy making their first appearance together on the concert platform in 1966, playing Mozart's Concerto in E flat for Two Pianos K365 with the English Chamber Orchestra, is still a constant source of musical pleasure. The occasion also marked Barenboim's London conducting début and it proved to be an exhilarating and memorable one.
