The novel tells the story of Jack Kerouac’s travels across the America of the late forties, always searching for freedom, for himself, for drugs, sex and the next great adventure. ‘On The Road’ lies at the core of pop culture. This book is the key to everything that followed. We want the 60th anniversary of its orginal publication to be the moment we take a closer look at it, as well: Four young people got the opportunity to get into an old convertible and drive that car straight across America on Jack Kerouac’s route. How will these modern young people experience a trip through modern America with ‘On The Road’ shining in the background? The result: a road movie, a collage of original locations, poetry slams, cinema verite, jam sessions, and new adventures on the road, with music by Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Gotye, Scott McKenzie, REM, Morcheeba, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, John Coltrane and Don McLean, amongst others.
The Heart of Sound – A Musical Journey with Vittorio Ghielmi
The Island of Sardinia is very rich in traditional song, music and dance of all kinds, and supports two distinct forms of polyvocal singing. The first is the secular sung dance-music Cantu á Tenores tradition, the second is the Coro or Cuncordu tradition of sacred ritual music, which in the quite recent past they were an integral part of numerous socio/religious rituals. World-renowned Viola da Gamba player, conductor and composer Vittorio Ghielmi (who appears with orchestras such as Il Giardino Armonico, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra or the London Philharmonic Orchestra) has been on a lifelong quest to find and create authentic interpretations of ancient-classical music.The film documents a special and unique way of making music that contributes to the vitality of rural life and thus provides a closer picture at Sardinia off the beaten tourist tracks. The sound track as well follows untrodden paths: the fruits of this collaboration reward the audience with music never ever played before.

‘ALSO SPRACH ZARATHUSTRA’: from the symphonic poems that brought Richard Strauss worldwide fame in the 1880s and 1890s and his florid operas from the first decade of the twentieth century to the resigned metamorphosis of his final masterpieces after the Second World War. In this production, Mariss Jansons is seizing the opportunity to pay tribute with this work, considered to be one of his specialities, to that other big name from the orchestra’s early history. Lang Lang live in Berlin featuring Herbie Hancock
To celebrate Lang Lang’s 30th birthday, ‘the hottest pianist on the classical music planet’, and iconic jazz pianist, Herbie Hancock, joined forces together for an extraordinary performance at the famous O2 WORLD in Berlin, Germany in June 2012. The Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma at Tanglewood Music Festival
Founded in 1998 by cellist Yo-Yo Ma, the Silk Road Project is an internationally minded nonprofit arts, cultural and educational organization that promotes innovation and learning through the arts. Its vision is to connect the world’s neighbourhoods by bringing together artists and audiences around the globe. The Silk Road Ensemble is a collective of musicians, composers and performing artists from more than 20 countries around the world. In sharing traditions from various cultures, the Ensemble develops and performs new music and multimedia pieces, exploring and expanding contemporary musical crossroads. The Silk Road Ensemble has recorded five albums and performed to critical acclaim throughout Asia, Europe and North America. John Cage – Journeys in Sound
On the occasion of the 100th birthday of the American composer in autumn 2012, the documentary honors one of the most extraordinary protagonists of 20th century music. The program is directed by Oscar® winner Allan Miller, whom the ‘New York Times’ called ‘America’s foremost filmmaker of documentaries on classical music’, co-directed by Paul Smaczny. Shot in America, Germany and Japan, the program premieres rare archival footage; presenting concert excerpts and a set of short stories, featuring associates of Cage and contemporary artists, playfully delineating different aspects of John Cage. Protagonists are Yoko Ono, David Tudor, Christian Wolff, Steffen Schleiermacher, Toshio Hosokawa, Mayumi Miyata, Calvin Tomkins and many others. The film was awarded as ‘best documentary’ at the Golden Prague Festival 2012 and best educational program at FIFA Montréal 2013.
