The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra celebrates its 20th anniversary by giving a concert at the Berlin Philharmonie with world-renowned artists: Anne-Sophie Mutter and Yo-Yo Ma perform Beethoven’s Triple Concerto together with Maestro Barenboim and the young musicians. Yo-Yo Ma, who played with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra at their first concert 20 years ago, and Anne-Sophie Mutter, who made her debut with the orchestra only this year, were named as honorary members of the orchestra on the occasion of this event. “It is fascinating to experience how brilliant, concentrated and at the same time relaxed these three world stars make music together and listen to each other. A masterpiece of harmony“ (RBB24). The second part of the concert features Bruckner’s 9th Symphony, transcendental music which the composer himself dedicated to “the dear God“. The symphony is unfinished not only because Bruckner died during the process of composition, but especially because it seems to perish in nothingness. Christian Thielemann celebrates Liszt in Weimar – Festive Concert on the 200th Birthday of Franz Liszt

On the 200th birthday of Franz Liszt, the city of Weimar arranges a special concert for its former Kapellmeister: members of the Staatskapelle Weimar and students of the Musikhochschule FRANZ LISZT play under the baton of conductor Christian Thielemann. Russian pianist Konstantin Sherbakov will perform Liszt’s ‘Totentanz’, a variation cycle for piano and orchestra, and his Second Piano Concerto.

Salzburg Festival 2012: Ouverture Spirituelle – Claudio Abbado

Salzburg Easter Festival 2013: Parsifal

Appropriately for the Wagner anniversary year the new era of the Salzburg Easter Festival under the Artistic Direction of Christian Thielemann begins with a new production of Richard Wagner’s Parsifal with the Staatskapelle Dresden as new orchestra in residence. It will be staged by the German director Michael Schulz. The title role in Richard Wagner’s Parsifal has been cast at the highest level with Johan Botha. At the special request of Christian Thielemann, Wolfgang Koch, one of the outstanding Wagner baritones of our times, takes on two roles: Amfortas and Klingsor. The celebrated mezzo-soprano Michaela Schuster will interpret the role of Kundry. The leading Danish bass and Wagner specialist Stephen Milling will appear as Gurnemanz and the young Bulgarian bass Milcho Borovinov in the role of Titurel.
