Daniel Harding conducts the Münchner Philharmoniker

From the Musikverein in Vienna, Renaud Capuçon is joined by the Münchner Philharmoniker and conductor Daniel Harding the first Austrian performance of his compatriot Thierry Escaich’s new Violin Concerto No. 2. A work of great drive and rhythmic vitality, it is coupled here with Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4 “Romantic” whose opening – with its horn theme intoned against shimmering strings – sets the scene for one of the composer’s most popular works, and a familar calling card for Harding, a conductor celebrated in this repertoire. PROGRAM: Escaich – Concerto for violin and orchestra (commissioned work and world premiere); Bruckner – Symphony No. 4 in E flat major

Mozart Week 2021: Giedre Šlekyte conducts Mozart

Bright as a bell is the attribute that one must associate with the voice of Regula Mühlemann. Her “Exsultate jubilate” scales the shimmering heights without any trace of effort, with a natural elegance that is second to none. After her stunning performance, the concert continues with Renaud Capuçon and Gérard Caussé performing Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante K. 364 under the intense baton of Lithuanian conductor Giedre Šlekyte on the podium of the Camerata Salzburg. PROGRAM Symphony No. 31, “Exsultate, jubilate” K. 165, “Nehmt meinen Dank, ihr holden Gönner” K. 383, Sinfonia concertante for Violin, Viola and Orchestra K. 364

Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela – Concert

Under the heading “Party in the Felsenreitschule,” the Munich daily Münchner Merkur boldly proclaimed: “Venezuela’s Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra guests at the Salzburg Festival – and delivers the biggest audience hit of the summer.” Two days after the concert reviewed by the Merkur, the ensemble united its massive forces once again for a spectacular concert in the Grosses Festspielhaus – another unqualified success! Rarely has an orchestra reached out and grabbed its audience in such a visceral manner; and even more rarely has such a feat been accomplished by an orchestra of youngsters between the ages of 12 and 26! The Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra, the Salzburg Festival’s resident orchestra of 2008, is a product of the “Sistema de Orquestas” set up to allow children of all social levels to learn a musical instrument and play in an ensemble.

Salzburg Festival 2021: Bruckner Symphony No. 7 (Chamber Version)

The first performance of Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony in Leipzig 1884 was one of the few unalloyed triumphs of his career. Eisler, Stein and Rankl, all three involved in making the arrangement, were all Schönberg pupils. Their chamber version allows us to hear Bruckner’s ideas with an extraordinary refreshing clarity – a most sympathetic and touching tribute to Bruckner by three of Vienna’s most progressive musical modernists in the 1920s. “A summit victory without heavy baggage. Monumental orchestral work in fabulous chamber sound: Renaud Capuçon and friends thrilled with Bruckner’s 7th Symphony… More intensity is hardly possible.” (Salzburger Nachrichten). PROGRAM: Bruckner: Symphony No. 7 (Chamber Version), arranged by Hanns Eisler, Erwin Stein, Karl Rankl
