Mozart, String Quartet in A major, K. 464 (Mozartwoche 1998)

Mozart, who had been profoundly moved by Haydn’s String Quartets op. 33, composed these quartets between 1782 and 1785 and dedicated them to his revered friend Joseph Haydn with the words: “Here they are then, O great man and dearest friend, these six children of mine. They are, it is true, the fruit of long and laborious efforts¿” The Hagen Quartet, consisting of the siblings Lukas, Veronika and Clemens Hagen along with the violinist Rainer Schmidt, attracted great attention and scored impressive successes while its members were still students at the Salzburg Mozarteum. Their international career began with their appearance at the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival in 1981. The quartet is now internationally known for its inspired performances, especially of works by Mozart.

Mozart, Maurerische Trauermusik in C Major, K. 477 (479b) (Mozartwoche 1998)

The “Masonic Funeral Music” was performed at the opening concert of the 1998 Salzburg “Mozartwoche” Festival on 23 January 1998. The Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg played under Hubert Soudant. The Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg became the state and municipal orchestra of the province of Salzburg in 1958 and has been regularly concertizing at the Salzburg Festival and the Mozartwoche. The principal conductor is the Dutch conductor Hubert Soudant, who headed the Nouvel Orchestre Philharmonique de France in Paris from 1981 to 1983 and the Utrecht Symphony Orchestra in Holland from 1983 to 1986. Next to his work in Salzburg, Soudant is also principal conductor of the Orchestra and Opera of the “Pays de Loire” in Nantes and Angers, France.

Mozart, Sonata for Bassoon and Violoncello in B flat major, K. 292 (Mozartwoche 1997)

The ensemble “Berlin trifft Wien” – Berlin Meets Vienna – consists of members of the Vienna Philharmonic and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras. The ensemble has been touring the entire world since 1983 now. The bassoonist Milan Turkovic is one of the few internationally known bassoon soloists. He was solo bassoonist of the Vienna Symphony until 1984 and has since been devoting himself exclusively to his solo activity. The cellist Gerhard Iberer, born in Graz in 1958, has been a cellist with the Vienna Philharmonic since 1985.

Mozart, Divertimento in F major, K. 247 (Inclusive March in F major, K. 248) (Mozartwoche 1997)

The Divertimento K. 247 and the March K. 248 were recorded at a concert given by the Wiener Kammerensemble at the Salzburg Mozarteum on 31 January 1997 during the Mozart Week Festival. The ensemble was founded in 1970 by prominent members of the Vienna Philharmonic. With a flexible combination of musicians and instruments, it performs its broad repertoire in many great musical centers of the world.
