Prague Sounds – Concert for Europe with Semyon Bychkov & the Czech Philharmonic

For this special concert, the Vltava river in Prague turned into a unique concert venue. Floating stages were built especially for this concert. To celebrate Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Czech Philharmonic perform some of the most iconic pieces of Czech classical music. The concert opens with the anthem of the European Union, Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy”, and is completed by Smetana’s Vltava (The Moldau), Dvorák’s Carnival Overture and – as the main piece of the evening – Janácek’s monumental Glagolitic Mass, one of the most powerful sacred compositions ever. Rachmaninov: Piano Concerto No. 2

Thus, the concerto gained a new life in music, whose impact can sometimes be blunted by its own popularity: Finely balancing constructive rigor and thoughtfulness this performance becomes a fresh, fruitful artistic joint venture.

Bayreuth Festival 2024: Tristan und Isolde

The annual new production at the Bayreuth Festival is always one of the most eagerly awaited events in the operatic calendar. And 2024 was no exception, as it’s the turn of Wagner’s great “opus metaphysicum”, Tristan und Isolde to be staged afresh at the festival the composer founded in 1876. A revolutionary work of music theatre, Tristan presents any director with a fascinating mixture of challenges and opportunities, which will be taken on by the innovative Icelandic director Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson, making his Bayreuth debut. The production’s musical director is Semyon Bychkov, who conducts a cast led by Camilla Nylund singing Isolde for the first time on the “Green Hill” and Bayreuth regular Andreas Schager as Tristan.
