Stars of the film are the conductor Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and it´s filmed at „Pier2“, a former dockyard in the harbour of Bremen. Where usually pop and rock concerts take place, the orchestra and the conductor work on Schumann´s 4 Symphonies and present it to a young audience. Beside the 4 Symphonies, a 98-minutes music film with Paavo Järvi, Schumann at Pier 2, is part of the 3 DVD-set. Järvi & Sidorova – Münchner Philharmoniker

“Latvian soloist Ksenija Sidorova…has true star quality – and yet always lets her instrument take centre stage” (Münchner Merkur) The Münchner Philharmoniker concert features Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi and Latvian accordionist Ksenija Sidorova. The program includes Debussy’s early piece “Printemps,” showcasing the orchestra’s subtlety. Sidorova performs “Prophecy,” an accordion and orchestra work by Erkki-Sven Tüür, known for its virtuosity and emotional final movement. The concert concludes with Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5, highlighting its bright mid-summer qualities. Paavo Järvi conducts Mahler: The Symphony Cycle

„Mahler’s heaven’s gates open“ exults the press on the occasion of Mahler’s first symphony, presented by Paavo Järvi and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra during the Rheingau Music Festival, as part of a multi-year cycle “at the highest niveau” (FAZ). Not only with this one, but with each individual symphony, succeeds Järvi, “the musical dramatist of superior vision” (FAZ) to excite the audience. Also in Mahler’s Eighth, he creates “richness of colour, depth and a visionary force that literally sweeps the listener” (FAZ). And so it is this very cycle that „contributes significantly to the rise of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra into the top group of German Radio Orchestras” (FAZ) and with which they reinforce their reputation as Mahler specialists. The Rheingau Music Festival provides for the Mahler cycle, not least for the “Symphony of a Thousand” the ideal stage: it is one of Europe’s largest music festivals with numerous concerts in churches and palaces, among others the very prestigious performing arts centers Kloster Eberbach and the Frankfurt Opera House. In 2006, conductor and Grammy Award-winner Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen set off on a major adventure: to master all nine Beethoven symphonies in a radical new reading. Järvi’s sensational new approach to these familiar works has won great renown for the orchestra. Their success led to a worldwide tour which included the U.S. and Japan (where the ensemble was ranked among the world’s top ten orchestras), and such prestigious venues as the Salzburg Festival. Wherever they performed, they were acclaimed by the press, who called them ‘the authoritative Beethoven orchestra of our day’.
