The Paths of Bach – III. Actus Tragicus

Raphaël Pichon and the Ensemble Pygmalion perform Johann Sebastian Bach's cantata "Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit", also known as "Actus tragicus", as well as a work by Johann Michael Bach.
Sixty kilometers north of Arnstadt lies Weißensee with its imposing church of St. Peter and Paul. Bach once stayed here to test the organ at the request of the church organist at the time.
Without an audience, the Pygmalion ensemble performs a choral piece by Johann Michael Bach, the son of Bach's great-uncle Heinrich Bach, against the backdrop of the magnificently decorated galleries. Excerpts from Johann Sebastian Bach's formally traditional cantata "Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit" complete the program.
