The Lady of the Camellias

Synopsis

“[John Neumeier] can tell a story with wordless bodies alone”(APA) Based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas fils and with music by Frédéric Chopin, the Lady of the Camellias depicts the tragic love story between Armand Duval and courtesan Marguerite Gautier. The stage and costume design by the illustrious Jürgen Rose are a perfect backdrop for the cinematic choreography, which places its full focus on the emotional lives of the characters – a masterpiece of recent dance history joins the Vienna repertoire. The entire Vienna State Ballet “floated confidently across the stage” (APA) and “Ketevan Papava conveys and dances the title role magnificently” (Kurier)
