Siegfried
Synopsis
Wagner’s second day of the stage-festival drama highlights the journey of Siegfried, a fearless hero raised by the crafty Mime, who seeks answers about his origins and eventually confronts Fafner, the dragon guarding a cursed treasure. Andreas Homoki’s interpretation emphasizes Siegfried’s innocence and courage, capturing his transformation from an unknowing orphan to a heroic figure. Gianandrea Noseda and the Philharmonia Zurich vividly bring out Wagner’s complex themes of nature, heroism, and existential freedom. The musical intensity supports Siegfried’s dynamic character arc, moving from playful innocence to powerful resolve. Klaus Florian Vogt’s portrayal of Siegfried, alongside Camilla Nylund as Brünnhilde and Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke as Mime, offers a fresh perspective on the character’s evolution, with dark humor and cunning enriching the story. Christian Schmidt’s set design pulls out all the stops in stage transformations, vibrantly illustrating Siegfried’s journey of self-discovery.
