Synopsis

“The whole city is a stage” – this is how the founding fathers of the Salzburg Festival – Max Reinhardt, Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Richard Strauss – formulated their intentions 100 years ago. Their wishes came to fruition and thrive unabated to this very day: During festival season, Salzburg undergoes a “momentary metamorphosis”, during which international stage stars, celebrities and the elites gather in this city of boundless charm. The Salzburg Festival has long since established itself as the most renowned classical music festival worldwide. The film portrays the festival and tells its incredible story: from its beginnings as a peace project after the First World War to the myth of “Jedermann” (“Everyman”) until today. What makes the Salzburg Festival so special and unique worldwide? Answers are provided by some of the most internationally renowned artists – including Tobias Moretti, Teodor Currentzis, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Cornelius Obonya and many others.
