Synopsis

Andrei Serban’s spectacular and thrilling production of Puccini’s final and grandest opera has long been a classic at the Royal Opera House that transports its audience to a beautiful but savage world full of passion. Sally Jacobs’s colourful sets and costumes are inspired by ancient Chinese culture, reflecting the traditional Chinese melodies woven into the score. This production features American Lise Lindstrom in the “killer“-role of Turandot, as well as a touching Liù from Japanese soprano Eri Nakamura and an unashamedly Italianate Calaf from Marco Berti. Hungarian conductor Henrik Nánási directs the large orchestra and allimportant chorus.
